Critics have turned on the government warning that this will not 'help state schools' and this will add further pressure on the education system.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said, "I think it is a tax on aspiration. I think the policy is short-sighted. It will damage children."
Conservative shadow education secretary Laura Trott stating: "This rise in VAT will do nothing to help state schools. The Labour Government is disrupting thousands of children's education..."
The Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson warned, "High and rising standards cannot just be for families who can afford them, and we must build an education system where every child can achieve and thrive."
