Prep talk: Ayala's Joshua Townsell appreciates character award and free chicken
"He's the epitome of what you want a student athlete to be."
"While he may not seek the spotlight, the impact he has made on our basketball program, and the wider Bulldog community, is nothing short of remarkable."
"That's what he was most bragging about."
Joshua Townsell, a senior point guard and AP Government student, earned a $1,000 scholarship and recognition at the 20th Dr. Jim Staunton Champions for Character Awards. Townsell maintains a 4.0 GPA, mentors teammates, and volunteers on water development projects in Nigeria and community service in Pomona. He is a first-team all-league point guard and a central figure in the Ayala basketball program and Bulldog community. Coach Sameer Bhatt praised his character and impact. Townsell also received a year of free Raising Cane's chicken, which he most enjoyed mentioning.
