Greenwich Council has stated that the declining number of pupils enrolling at Gallions Mount Primary School has resulted in a significant financial deficit, leading to considerations for its closure.
Despite the school's long-standing history, the number of students has dramatically decreased from 295 in January 2021 to just 169, which has raised concerns about its sustainability.
Officers emphasized that the consistent drop in enrollment over several years, alongside a projected £1.2 million deficit by April 2026, makes closure a necessary measure.
The local authority acknowledges the impact this decision will have on the community but insists it is unavoidable due to the unsustainable student numbers.
