Nearly 400,000 penalty notices for unauthorized pupil absences were issued in England in 2022-23, mainly for unapproved holidays during term times, leading to revised fines of 80 to 160 pounds.
Officials hope these measures, including the appointment of a national attendance ambassador, will aid in identifying and assisting children prone to prolonged absences or educational disengagement.
