Palo Alto Unified School District is defending against multiple lawsuits totaling at least 11 cases. The district paid former P.E. teacher Peter Colombo $3.25 million after he alleged the superintendent withheld documents in a rape allegation case from 2002. Recent February filings include cases from former employees Victoria Maya and Wei Kung, who claim retaliation and discriminatory treatment. Maya alleges the acting superintendent used derogatory language after she took medical leave. Kung claims she was fired for reporting potential bribery by a maintenance director. Both women assert they were treated differently than male employees. Former robotics teacher Kathleen Krier faces trial in March over claims of homophobia and bullying from parents with inadequate district support.
