Education Minister Jill Dunlop condemned the trustees' trip, calling it "appalling" and highlighting the board's failure to act as responsible stewards of taxpayer money.
Trustees promised to repay expenses from their controversial Italy trip and explore other funding options to cover costs associated with the commissioned artwork.
The review by Aaron Shull will also address the board's conflict of interest and accountability policies alongside the scrutiny of expenditures at all Ontario school boards.
The art purchased during the Italy trip included notable religious sculptures, raising concerns over fiscal responsibility and the priorities of the BHNCDSB.
