New York school district installs 'vape detectors' in middle school bathrooms
Briefly

Lindenhurst Middle School in Long Island installed FlySense FS300 vape detectors to detect nicotine, THC, air quality, and sound, alerting officials of vape usage or fights in bathrooms.
The detectors have AI algorithms to distinguish sounds like doors slamming from roughhousing. No microphones are included. Principal is immediately alerted, and students receive intervention services and education on vaping.
A student's concern about classmates' vaping addiction led to the detector installation. The devices have already caught two student vapers. Similar detectors will be installed in other school bathrooms.
