Black Americans fare worse in health; increasing Black doctor representation could disrupt inequities. In 2022, only 6% of U.S. physicians were Black, though 13% of the population is Black.
The $600 million gift to four historically Black medical schools will more than double three of their endowments. Xavier University of Louisiana will also receive a grant.
