Longfellow school rebuild may not be complete until summer 2027
Briefly

The reconstruction of Longfellow Middle School is now projected to take up to three years and cost around $68 million, significantly higher than the original estimate of $39.5 million.
Trish McDermott from BUSD commented that unforeseen conditions, including the need for seismic upgrades, have extended the timeline and increased the costs of the reconstruction.
As a result of severe dry rot and water damage found during remodeling, BUSD red-tagged Longfellow's main academic building and relocated students to the Adult School campus.
Concerns were raised by attending parents about slow communication and lack of transparency from the district concerning the reconstruction and temporary relocation of Longfellow students.
