Los Angeles public school students showed year-over-year test score increases in math and English, outpacing statewide improvements, yet overall proficiency rates still lag.
Despite progress, only 43% of LAUSD students met grade-level standards in English and 32.8% in math, indicating that many students continue to struggle with basic proficiency.
School board President Jackie Goldberg acknowledged, 'We're not done... But when you see growth that looks like this, you actually now believe that it's possible to get there.'
Superintendent Alberto Carvalho emphasized the importance of students' growth rather than solely their proficiency rates, stating, 'What we're doing here, what we're proving is it's working.'
