Thirty-six high school students from over 2,000 schools worldwide competed in the second International Logic Olympiad (ILO) at Stanford University. Selected from more than 4,000 candidates, these finalists engaged in multiple rounds of tests consisting of logic puzzles and mathematical challenges. The winning team, comprising Luke Song, Zixuan Yin, Kingston Zhang, and Max Yang, credited their success to practice and camaraderie. ILO was established by Michael Genesereth to emphasize logic's vital role in various fields, including medicine and law, reflecting its relevance in today’s world.
The ILO was launched by Stanford computer scientist and logician Michael Genesereth in a collaboration between the university and the educational nonprofit Luminas.
The key to their success, they contend, was lots of practice and teamwork.
Doctors employ logic to diagnose patients, lawyers use logical arguments in the courtroom, and logic is more essential than ever to evaluate the rapidly changing world around us.
Most of this year's winners have an interest in computer science, alongside environmental science, applied math and elect.
