Historic Crown Heights School to Become Family Shelter
Briefly

A 19th-century building in Brooklyn, originally a racially integrated school, is set to become a homeless shelter instead of affordable housing, alarming the community.
The vacant 1634 Dean Street building will be converted into a family shelter with 91 units, operated by Highland Park Community Development Corporation, serving homeless families for extended periods.
Highland Park Community Development Corporation will receive over $6.5 million to run operations at the shelter for five years, with additional costs for rent to the building landlord.
