Hill Dems protest Trump's plans to dismantle Education Department
Briefly

On a recent Friday, a group of congressional Democrats attempted to question acting Education Secretary Denise Carter regarding a potential executive order aimed at dismantling the Department of Education. They were denied entry by security, sparking frustration as they stood firm against the perceived threat to the agency. Representative Mark Takano and others emphasized the importance of the department for public education and student support, asserting that only Congress has the authority to shut it down. Despite their efforts, they have yet to receive a response from the Department of Education regarding their concerns.

A security guard denied them entry, saying they needed an appointment or escort. Officers from the Department of Homeland Security stood inside the building.
