Here's what Staten Island students can expect from new literacy curriculum, according to officials
Briefly

"Traditionally, every school has a night usually called curriculum night, where we basically go over these things. It's always helpful, especially at the younger grades where the parent has an understanding of what the teacher is trying to do because by and large, the parents will be the one helping them with their homework."
"All Staten Island elementary schools will adopt the Into Reading curriculum. A product of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH), it offers the same Into Reading program in Spanish, which will be used for schools with dual-language programs."
"The curriculum touts itself as being based on research in the essential elements of literacy and gives teachers access to texts for whole-class shared reading. It utilizes the five pillars of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension."
