"I can't explain the feeling, the mother told the newspaper of learning her one-year-old had been collected by a man she didn't know. We don't blame him. We are not angry with him. We are not upset at him we blame the daycare."
"I am just so glad the little boy was OK, she said, adding her husband had arrived at the centre when the children were sleeping and the room was dark."
"This has never happened before at Bangor, or at any of our other centres, Hastie said in a statement on Thursday."
A grandfather collected the wrong one-year-old toddler from First Steps Learning Academy in Bangor and took the child home while the toddler slept. The error was discovered when the child's mother arrived to collect him and found he was not at the centre. The grandfather returned the boy quickly after realising the mistake, and the family said they did not blame him. New South Wales' Early Childhood Education and Care Regulatory Authority opened a thorough investigation and the centre temporarily stood down an educator. The approved provider apologised and called the incident isolated; NSW police were notified but reported no record of an investigation.
