Do Yondr Pouches Really Work?
Briefly

Yondr phone pouches are designed to control student phone usage in schools. Used in over 50 states and 35 countries, these neoprene pouches lock phones away during school hours. The schools incur costs ranging from $27 to $30 per pouch, funded through various educational grants and relief funds. However, students have found ways to compromise the pouches, leading to some intentionally breaking them. The financial implications could affect school activities like trips, as funds are diverted for pouches instead of student experiences.
The pouches are paid for from a variety of streams, including Title I, II, and IV funding, as well as funds meant for COVID relief, mental health, safety, and technology.
Many of her classmates were breaking them on purpose. 'People were saying the sixth-graders might not be able to go on their annual Six Flags trip because the school was spending so much money replacing Yondr pouches.'
At many schools that use Yondr, each student receives a pouch at the beginning of the school year like they would a textbook.
The pouches start at $30 apiece, though the price can be negotiated down to $27... The cost includes the unlocking bases, implementation and training, and customer-service support.
