College Possible Uses AI Tool to Support Students, Coaches
Briefly

College Possible faced significant challenges after funding cuts forced layoffs of AmeriCorps volunteers, resulting in a near doubling of caseloads for advising specialists. To cope with the increased demand, the organization had been developing an AI tool designed to assist students with inquiries about college admissions and success. Funded by a $1 million grant from Salesforce, this tool aimed to minimize administrative tasks and enhance the effectiveness of coaches while allowing students greater control over their inquiries and interactions with available support personnel.
The funding cuts for AmeriCorps members led to significant layoffs at College Possible, causing an advising specialist's caseload to nearly double, rising to 886 students.
The organization had been developing an AI tool to help manage the increased workload, which allowed students to ask questions through a chat bot trained on the organization's specific data.
Thanks to a $1 million grant from Salesforce, College Possible's AI tool reduced administrative tasks for counselors, making them more effective in supporting students.
CEO Siva Kumari emphasized that the AI system was designed to enhance student access to information and provide them agency in how and when they sought help.
