A lawsuit filed against Castilleja School alleges that Mark Hodes, a former tutor, sexually abused three girls and that the school failed to act on prior knowledge of his misconduct dating back to the early 1990s. Hodes had been arrested in 2020 for molesting teenage girls during private lessons. The lawsuit highlights the institution's negligence in providing a safe environment for students, as attorneys believe more than a dozen additional victims may exist. Castilleja, a prestigious all-girls school, has approximately 400 students and charges over $60,000 in tuition.
The lawsuit alleges that Castilleja School was aware of the tutor's prior sexual misconduct as early as the 1992-93 school year and continued to allow unsupervised access.
