All Seattle Public Schools employees will return to the office full-time
""Nothing will ever replace being together, working together, organically meeting and talking, finding those five minutes to chat about a project you are working on, or a student assignment, or a great lesson plan idea you have.""
""For us to be a team, we all need to present. And when we are able, we should be in schools, supporting what is happening.""
""I appreciate that this will impact many people. It will create a commute. It will adjust childcare. And yes, you might have to smell Lisa from accounting's lunch in the staff break room.""
""Medical and legal accommodations will be respected and supported.""
Seattle Public Schools employees are required to return to the office five days a week this summer, as announced by Superintendent Ben Shuldiner. He emphasized the value of in-person collaboration and the need for all staff to be present to support the organization effectively. Currently, around 330 employees work remotely or in a hybrid capacity. Shuldiner acknowledged the challenges this transition may pose, including commuting and childcare adjustments, but reiterated that remote work was intended to be temporary. Medical and legal accommodations will be honored.
