French-inspired mansion for sale in Bethesda has whimsical touches
Briefly

Eyal Banai and his wife, Shuki, decided to age in place by constructing a replica of their cherished mansion just three doors down from their original home in Bethesda. Built by Sandy Spring Builders, the new house boasts aging-friendly features like a primary suite on the main level and an elevator. Previously, they lived in a whimsical home full of playful elements, such as a secret children's room and an enchanting wine cellar. Their former house is now on the market for $4.99 million, showcasing the couple’s commitment to preserving their lifestyle and aesthetic preferences.
"Everybody made fun of us, but the end result ended up very, very nice," Banai said, reflecting on their decision to replicate their beloved home.
The whimsical features include the entrance to the 'old-world style' wine cellar, which Banai compared to a portal, lined with murals and a gravel pathway.
