Restaurant news: Asia Live pushes back opening date at Valley Fair
Asia Live, a pan-Asian food emporium joining Westfield Valley Fair’s restaurant row, has postponed its grand opening to Friday, June 12. The original opening date was June 1, with timing tied to the permit process. Owners George Chen and Cindy Wong-Chen, who also run China Live in San Francisco, aim to showcase a wide range of pan-Asian cuisines. The 15,000-square-foot, two-level space will include restaurants and bars, a retail marketplace, and cooking stations for interactive experiences such as dumpling making, sushi rolling, and curry preparation. A rooftop terrace is planned for a later date. The opening adds to Valley Fair’s existing lineup of Asian dining options.
"Asia Live, the landmark food emporium joining Westfield Valley Fair's restaurant row, has postponed its grand opening to Friday, June 12. As Bay Area residents who follow the news about restaurant openings know, the timing often comes down to the permit process, according to owner-chef George Chen's team. The date had been set for June 1."
"He and wife-restaurateur Cindy Wong-Chen, owners of San Francisco's China Live, have long wanted to open a pan-Asian emporium to showcase the myriad cuisines. The 15,000-square-foot space, set over two levels - with a rooftop terrace to come at a later date - will feature restaurants and bars, a retail marketplace and cooking stations for interactive experiences."
"Diners will be able to watch chefs fill dumplings, for example, roll sushi and make curry. Sue Newsom, the mall's senior general manager, noted that the Asia Live opening will be significant because Valley Fair is not just a shopping destination, but also a dining destination."
"The emporium will join a long lineup of Asian restaurants there that includes Din Tai Fung, Ramen Nagi, Koja Kitchen, Marugame Udon, AnQi Shaken & Stirred, Baekjeong Korean BBQ, Habitant, IJ Sushi Burrito, Tai Er Sichuan, Ruby Thai, Sarku Japan, Ox 9 Lanzhou Pulled Noodles, Onigilly Japanese Kitchen, along with several casual cafes and beverage shops."
