ThriftyCat, a thrift store in downtown Berkeley, has sorted through 40 tons of second-hand clothing to launch its new shop. Owned by Bryce Kalousek-Maritano, who also runs Curiosity Shop nearby, ThriftyCat opens with an eclectic mix of styles such as Preppy, Gothic, and Y2K. Co-managers Jada Graham and Olivia Ramos emphasize accessibility, offering low-priced items in response to the community's demand for affordable fashion. The store’s approach contrasts with Berkeley's typically expensive second-hand shops, featuring dollar bins and an inviting, vibrant atmosphere aimed at attracting a diverse clientele.
"We're just trying to give clothes to the community at good prices," said Ramos, aiming to provide affordable options in a city dominated by expensive thrift shops.
"The clothes were sourced from a bulk supplier of second-hand clothes, and while all 40 tons are not currently on display, ThriftyCat is jam-packed with clothing."
