Recent burglaries at Chevron gas stations in Oakland have raised alarm due to the violent nature of the thefts. In one instance, burglars ransacked a gas station by ramming a vehicle into it and stealing its safe. Gas station manager Afework Esayas voiced his safety concerns and shared that a store clerk quit after the incident. Surveillance footage has recorded similar incidents, prompting police investigations. This week alone saw up to five such incidents, heightening fears around crime and safety in the area.
Gas Station Manager Afework Esayas expressed fear for his safety and described the burglary as "a murder attempt to drive inside with car. It's so horrible."
Esayas noted, "He just quit his job--says he's not going to work anymore. Even I am scared for my life."
After witnessing the brazen smash-and-grab, a witness shared they saw "about 5 or 6 people... dragging something out of the business."
Surveillance video captured a red car ramming into a Chevron gas station as thieves rummaged through the debris shortly after.
