After nearly 20 years in business, Vanessa's Bistro to close at the end of the year
"A longtime community staple for fresh French-Vietnamese fare is bidding farewell to Berkeley. Vanessa's Bistro, open for nearly two decades on Solano Ave., will shutter permanently at the end of December. Co-owner Vi Nguyen told Nosh that her landlord won't be renewing the restaurant's lease and that, facing financial headwinds and dwindling foot traffic, keeping the business open is no longer viable."
"Editor's note: Nosh covers food and restaurant news across the East Bay, and each week we publish one article covering all the restaurant openings and one article covering closings. Have a tip for Nosh? Submit it here. The mother-daughter owned restaurant is known for serving comforting, hearty meals like seafood bouillabaisse garnished with garlic bread and a five-spice maple leaf duck confit. Vanessa's Bistro was located at 1715 Solano Ave. (at Tulare Ave.) in Berkeley."
Vanessa's Bistro will close at the end of December after nearly two decades on Solano Avenue in Berkeley. The landlord will not renew the restaurant's lease, and financial headwinds combined with dwindling foot traffic made continued operation unviable. The restaurant was mother-daughter owned and specialized in fresh French-Vietnamese comfort food served in hearty portions. Signature dishes included seafood bouillabaisse garnished with garlic bread and a five-spice maple leaf duck confit. The restaurant occupied 1715 Solano Ave., at Tulare Avenue, and had served the local community with familiar, comforting meals for many years.
