A new food-centered event celebrates Black Berkeley's cultural traditions
"The event is a free, family-friendly gathering centered on food, music, and storytelling, focused on preserving and celebrating Black Berkeley's cultural traditions."
"There is a specific energy that is created when Black folks are allowed to be their authentic selves by sharing their ancestral legacies."
The Berkeley Cake Walk, scheduled for May 2, 2026, at San Pablo Park, aims to celebrate Black cultural traditions and ancestral roots. This free event will feature food, music, and storytelling, fostering intergenerational connections and cultural knowledge sharing. Inspired by past Berkeley High reunions and traditional cake walks, co-organizers Porsche Combash and Artlyn Johnson have collaborated with local churches and artists to create a vibrant community gathering. The event reflects the importance of allowing Black individuals to express their authentic selves and share their legacies.
