What do District 1 residents want from their elected officials? 'Come out and visit'
Briefly

Hannah L., a Rockridge resident: "My primary concern as someone who has spent basically my entire life in the city of Oakland is the sense that I get that a lot of people - I don't want to say everyone, because obviously that's way too much of a blanket statement - but I feel like a vast majority of people, including people at the very top of our government, have kind of given up on the city. Which is really bad, because I've seen a lot of change in Oakland my entire life. I've seen it better, and I've seen it worse, but I know that no substantive change can be made if people just decide that it's not worth fighting to make it better, which is what I've seen over the last five, six years."
Brian Lyons, owner of Transports on College Avenue: "What I think would really help our community is if elected officials show up. We need them to engage with us more actively, understand what we are going through on the ground. It's not just about hearing us, they have to be present and take action based on the needs we share with them. We're in a crucial time, and their support can make a significant difference for local businesses and families."
