"Nosh reported in September that Vanessa's Bistro, a longtime Vietnamese mainstay run by a mother-daughter duo, was set to close permanently at the end of 2025. At the time, the landlord had decided not to renew the lease after 20 years. In a remarkable change of course, Vanessa's Bistro will remain open, according to co-owner Vi Nguyen, as the landlord has seemingly been swayed."

Vanessa's Bistro is a longtime Vietnamese mainstay in Berkeley run by a mother-daughter duo. The bistro had been expected to close permanently at the end of 2025 after the landlord decided not to renew the lease following 20 years of operation. A recent reversal by the landlord has allowed Vanessa's Bistro to remain open. Co-owner Vi Nguyen confirmed the change and credited the landlord's apparent willingness to be swayed. Menu highlights include Vietnamese green papaya salad with poached prawns, five-spiced honey-marinated quail, and spicy sautéed lemongrass. Vanessa's Bistro is located at 1715 Solano Ave. at Tulare Ave., Berkeley.
