The pilot of the 1969 Mooney M-20 declared a 'Mayday' shortly after takeoff due to 'engine roughness' and attempted an emergency landing near train tracks.
First responders arrived at the crash site shortly after 1:45 p.m., where both occupants of the airplane suffered moderate injuries after hitting a tree.
Video footage captured the plane attempting to land between a commercial building and railroad track before colliding with a tree, impacting the aircraft's wing.
Authorities cleared the pilot to return to Fullerton Municipal Airport, but the plane ended up approximately half a mile away from the runway.
