A small aftershock with a magnitude of 3.3 was registered near Petrolia on Friday evening, a day after a significant 7.0 quake off the Humboldt County coast.
The 7.0 quake struck at 10:44 a.m. Thursday, located half a mile beneath the Pacific Ocean, approximately 40 miles off Ferndale’s coast, causing notable shaking.
The National Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning shortly after the initial quake and later canceled it about an hour later, indicating rapid assessment responsiveness.
Despite the intensity of the 7.0 earthquake, no injuries or immediate damages were reported, highlighting perhaps the preparedness of the region to handle seismic events.
