The former Lux Theater and Goodwill site in downtown Oakland is being transformed into Ceremony, a mid-sized entertainment venue set to open on March 7. Owned by Jesse Tittsworth and Dominic Green, it will feature a state-of-the-art sound system, a full kitchen for food pop-ups, and space for up to 800 attendees. Alongside the venue, they plan to launch a nonprofit to support underrepresented individuals aspiring to break into the entertainment industry, addressing classism and financial barriers that exist in the field.
How do we create something that could give people the opportunity, particularly in the East Bay, to get to these steps of becoming a venue owner, audio tech, things of that nature?
[T]his has been an affirmation of how classist a lot of these things are, how difficult it is for us to do that, and it permeates every level right now.
