"We're thrilled to welcome the community back to the Main Branch after these essential upgrades," Oakland Public Library Director Jamie Turbak said in the press release. "The improvements will create a more comfortable and enjoyable environment for all our visitors and staff."
The library received $4.2 million from various sources, and the City of Oakland provided matching funds through Measures KK and U, which the Oakland City Council approved in October 2023.
The main branch was shuttered for infrastructure repairs, including a new roof, upgraded electrical system, improvements to the heating and cooling, upgraded flooring, lighting, and ceiling upgrades.
According to the press release, skylight repairs will continue through 2025 with minimal disruption to library patrons.
