Despite losing major sports teams, Oakland demonstrated its love for basketball during the fourth annual NBA HBCU Classic. The event featured a thrilling game where Tuskegee defeated Morehouse 68-55, but the memorable experience transcended the score. Attendees celebrated with joy, singing and dancing, fostering an energetic atmosphere reminiscent of true HBCU culture. Coaches from both teams expressed pride and excitement about providing their players with an unforgettable experience, noting the production value and engaged crowd, proving that community spirit thrives in Oakland regardless of the absence of traditional teams.
It got to be an HBCU event for sure. The production, the fans in the building, the music, everything about this game was super big-time.
I got goosebumps for these young men. For them to experience something like this was something special and unforgettable.
