Fabio Ochoa Vasquez, a prominent figure in the Medellin cocaine cartel, has been released from a U.S. prison after serving 25 years of a 30-year sentence.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Ochoa and his brothers gained immense wealth from the cocaine trade, even making it onto Forbes' billionaires list.
Though he faded from the spotlight as Mexico's drug trade rose, Ochoa's legacy was revived in the Netflix series Narcos, showcasing his privileged upbringing.
Ochoa's legal troubles included a significant 1986 indictment for the murder of DEA informant Barry Seal, yet he was the only one of 40 co-defendants to go to trial.
