BART officials have revised their explanation regarding a recent fire incident at the San Leandro station, which disrupted service for several days. While the initial cause was attributed to a frayed volt cable and an insufficiently responsive circuit breaker, engineers now indicate systemic vulnerabilities could pose broader risks. Following this revelation, BART is committed to investigating components involved in power systems, enhancing safety to prevent any future occurrences of similar incidents across its network of 50 stations.
We take this event very seriously, this is a review that we want to make sure is thorough... We're looking at several things including components for power systems, communication cables, conduits.
This is hardly a coverup. BART is being extremely transparent about their investigation into the fire and what went wrong. Their initial assessment was flawed.
