Kopi Bar and Bakery's arrives at BAMPFA, bringing avocado coffees and Indonesian-inspired pastries
"When Kopi Bar shuttered its original location in Walnut Creek in June, it left behind many fans who turned out for its distinct menu of Indonesian-inspired beverages and pastries like coconut cappuccinos, creamy avocado coffees and croissants made with klepon, a traditional Indonesian sweet glutinous rice ball filled with palm sugar, colored green with pandan, and rolled in grated coconut."
"This cafe space at BAMPFA has been empty since 2021 when Babette left (now located on San Pablo Avenue but closing Oct. 31). Haron and BAMPFA collaborated to renovate the space to include traditional Indonesian artwork on the walls, including Balinese sandstone carvings and Javanese copper batik stamps from the Haron family's personal collection, which used to be in her Walnut Creek space. Batik is Indonesia's textile-dying technique."
Kopi Bar closed its Walnut Creek location in June and is reopening as Kopi Bar and Bakery at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive with a grand opening on Nov. 1 and regular hours starting Nov. 2. The menu features Indonesian- and Singapore-inspired drinks and pastries, including coconut cappuccinos, avocado coffees and klepon croissants. The cafe space had been vacant since 2021 and was renovated in collaboration with the museum. The renovation includes Balinese sandstone carvings and Javanese copper batik stamps from the owner’s family collection. Museum admission is not required to visit the cafe.
