A fire on the BART train tracks near the San Leandro station caused significant service disruptions early Tuesday morning, affecting multiple lines. The fire, reported around 5:10 a.m., led to the closure of the station and suspension of service. Frustrated passengers noted this incident came shortly after a previous service shut down due to a computer malfunction. Damage to essential equipment extended repair time, which BART officials estimate could last until evening. Local businesses also experienced power outages as a result of the incident, with investigations ongoing into the fire's cause.
I love BART, but things like this happen with no notice. And it's kind of frustrating," says Shannon Lee, who lives in Dublin.
I woke up to crazy explosions, and came out and saw literally more worse than fireworks. It was very intense that the radiation could be felt through the apartment," Awnallah said.
Officials said around 2:50 p.m., service is expected to be restored at 5:30 p.m.
Power was also out for hours for businesses and homes near the BART station.
