In East Oakland, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle shortly after California Highway Patrol (CHP) halted its pursuit of the car. The male victim, an Oakland resident in his 40s, died at the scene, while a woman accompanying him was critically injured. The pursuit of the Infiniti G35 ended after the car collided with another vehicle. Authorities tracked it via a CHP plane until it eventually lost control and struck the couple walking on the sidewalk. The driver, an 18-year-old without a valid license, attempted to flee but was arrested soon after.
