The Dolphin Restaurant, a fixture at the Santa Cruz Wharf for over 50 years, was demolished due to imperiled pilings beneath, requiring removal for essential repairs.
City Development Manager Norm Daly stated, 'It was really time for something to happen there anyways. This was a great opportunity to remove that building and then repair the piles underneath.'
The ailing structure, built in the 1960s, was deemed functionally obsolete, and the current demolishing allows for the restoration of the more than 100-year-old wooden wharf.
After the Dolphin's demolition, construction is set to replace approximately 60 pilings, setting a tentative completion date for the repairs for March 2025.
