The Dorothy Day House has been focused on providing services to the city’s unsheltered population since the 1990s, offering warm meals, showers, clothing, and housing support.
We had to find creative ways to make people safe, said Executive Director Robbi Montoya, reflecting on how hotels and motels became viable solutions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last month, Dorothy Day House was awarded a $5.3 million contract for a shelter at the Howard Johnson Motel to assist unsheltered residents.
These shelters save people’s lives, said program coordinator Daniel Garcia, highlighting the essential role of emergency services in getting people off the streets.
