Black Joy Parade honors 3 'Icons Among Us'
Briefly

The Black Joy Parade recently honored three community leaders with the "Icons Among Us" award, which recognizes their contributions to uplift the community. This year's honorees included Joyce Gordon, Tyrone Stevenson Jr., and Gigi R. Crowder. The event, supported by Comcast, featured an art show and emphasized honoring living heroes rather than posthumously. The award allows recipients to donate $5,000 to a nonprofit of their choice, promoting community growth. Additionally, Oakland's YouthBeat received funding for students to create videos about the awardees, enhancing their employment and media skills.
