Berkeley, a Look Back: Residents hope to see large new military dirigible

The Shenandoah, the U.S. military's airship, was expected to fly over Berkeley in October 1924, but ultimately remained 25 miles off the California coast due to winds.
The arrival of the German airship ZR-3, more than 650 feet long, made headlines as it crossed the Atlantic in under three and a half days.
A new Masonic clubhouse was dedicated in late September 1924, featuring Georgian Colonial architecture and designed as a gathering place for students with potential for expansion.
Berkeleyans were eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Shenandoah, with many setting up flood lights to try and catch a glimpse of the historic flight.
