"I am sorry for every one of these incidents, from the bottom of my heart," said Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, expressing hope for the settlement to provide healing.
"The settlement tops the previous high for a diocese, from 2007, when LA agreed to pay $660 million in lawsuits brought by 508 people," noted Terence McKiernan, a watchdog president.
"There are a lot more dominoes in California to come down," Terence McKiernan added, indicating that other dioceses still face unresolved abuse claims or bankruptcy.
