Briefly

Eric Stearns, of the National Park Service, will give the presentation, followed by a tour of the Hornet's exhibit on African Americans in the military.
During World War II, 202 Black U.S. Navy sailors died while loading ammunition for the war efforts in the Pacific Theater in the massive explosion at Port Chicago. A total of 320 people died that day in the U.S. home front biggest loss of life during the war. The 328 Black sailors who were at the facility when the disaster happened were ordered to go back to work, but 50 refused, were convicted of mutiny and sentenced to prison, where they remained for the rest of the war. Come and hear what eventually happened and why we should remember it to make this a better country in the future.
