In 2025, several whale festivals will take place along the California coast, offering activities centered around the majestic gray whale migration. The annual Mendocino Whale Festival spans two days with events like chowder tastings, wine walks, and whale spotting symposia. The Little River Whale Festival features a sunset gathering with storytelling and a beach bonfire, plus a competition for the best margarita. With an increase in festivals following Covid cancellations, these events promise fun, educational experiences while enjoying the natural beauty and wildlife of the region.
On Saturday, there will be a chowder tasting at the Crown Hall banquet room featuring local restaurants and a wine walk through Mendocino's bevy of quaint shops.
This fest kicks off on Friday, March 7, in the whale's backyard of Van Damme State Park, with a sunset gathering on the beach featuring whale stories, songs, trivia, hot cocoa and s'mores roasting over campfires.
