In England, valid photo ID is mandatory for in-person voting in local elections on 7 May. Over 20 forms of ID are accepted, including passports and driving licenses. Out-of-date ID is permissible if the voter looks the same. Voters must apply for a certificate by 28 April. If a voter lacks valid ID, they will be asked to return with it. In the May 2025 elections, 0.4% were turned away due to ID issues, with 71% returning to vote later. Northern Ireland has had ID requirements since 2002.
