Avant Money has informed approximately 4,200 customers that they are due refunds owing to an administrative error leading to incorrect interest rates on cash transactions. One customer from Co Meath received a notification of a €544.48 refund, raising suspicions of a scam, as he had not used the card in years. The bank has acknowledged the error and proactively notified the Central Bank of Ireland, although they were not mandated to do so. The average refund is about €20.43.
"I thought it was a scam at first as I haven't had an Avant Money card for four years."
"While the error was resolved within the required regulatory timeframe, meaning there was no obligation to notify the Central Bank, we have chosen to do so as a courtesy."
