At least four people were killed and one was missing after a helicopter crashed in the Lamego area of northern Portugal on Friday during a firefighting mission.
The accident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. local time as the helicopter crashed into the River Douro, prompting aerial and ground searches for the missing.
Rui Silva Lampreia, head of the National Maritime Authority, reported that two bodies were recovered from the submerged aircraft as recovery efforts continued.
The helicopter carried five passengers, all members of the Emergency Protection and Rescue Unit of the national gendarmerie, and the pilot survived with leg fractures.
