Poland to temporarily reinstate border controls with Germany DW 07/01/2025
Briefly

Poland plans to implement temporary border checks with Germany and Lithuania effective July 7, aimed at curtailing irregular migrant crossings. Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized the necessity of restoring border controls to minimize uncontrolled migration flows. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz supported the need for border checks, highlighting insufficient guarantees for external European border protection. Both leaders expressed their intention to collaborate on managing the issue. Merz dismissed claims regarding the repatriation of asylum seekers from Germany back to Poland as unfounded.
We consider the temporary restoration of controls at the Polish-German border necessary to limit and reduce to a minimum the uncontrolled flows... of migrants back and forth.
We must at this time keep border controls, because the protection of the external European borders is not sufficiently guaranteed.
