Minimum wage hikes over past nine years not linked to job losses, ESRI finds
"The study found no evidence that rises in the minimum wage increased the likelihood of job losses among low-paid workers in Ireland."
"An employee aged 18 is entitled to 80pc of the full adult minimum wage rate, while a 19-year-old can earn 90pc."
Research from the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) indicates that minimum wage increases in Ireland between 2016 and 2025 did not correlate with increased unemployment among low-paid workers. The study, funded by the Low Pay Commission, analyzed the employment status of minimum wage employees six months after wage increases. Findings revealed no significant evidence that these wage rises led to a higher likelihood of job losses among affected workers.
