Hochul Lauds Crackdown on Youth Social Media Use
Briefly

Albany lawmakers passed the SAFE for Kids Act to restrict addictive feeds on social media for users under 18, with no addictive feed notifications to minors from 12:00am to 6:00am without parental consent.
The Child Data Protection Act prohibits online platforms from collecting, using, sharing, or selling personal data of individuals under 18 without consent or unless necessary for the website's purpose.
The legislation allows for civil penalties of up to $5,000 per violation, and empowers the Office of the Attorney General to establish age verification and consent methods.
"New York is leading the nation to protect our kids from addictive social media feeds and shield their personal data from predatory companies," stated Governor Kathy Hochul.
